Terms of Service

Last updated: October 20, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Balance: the apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, the web app at web.balancebudgetapp.com and the website at balancebudgetapp.com (together, the "Service").

The Service is provided by Wellcode S.r.l.s., Via Reggio 5/A, 42015 Correggio (RE), Italy, VAT no. IT02956860353 ("Wellcode", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.

1. What Balance is — and what it is not

Balance is a budgeting tool. It lets you record income and expenses, organise them into categories and budgets, and share them with the other members of your household, so that you can see who paid what and how costs are split.

Balance is not a bank, a payment service or a financial advisor. In particular:

  • it does not connect to your bank accounts and does not hold, move or transfer money: every figure in the app is one that you or a member of your household entered;
  • balances, splits, totals and charts are calculated from those entries and are only as accurate as they are;
  • nothing in the Service is financial, tax, legal or investment advice. Decisions you make based on the Service are your own.

2. Your account

To use the apps you need an account. You can sign in with Google, with Apple (on Apple devices and on the web) or with an email address and password. You agree to give accurate information, to keep your sign-in credentials secure and to tell us promptly if you believe someone else has accessed your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

3. Shared households

Balance is built for sharing. When you invite someone into your household, or join someone else's, the members of that household can see and edit the data in it — transactions, categories, budgets, recurring entries, payment methods and notes — together with each member's name and profile photo.

  • Only invite people you trust with this information, and only enter information about others that you are entitled to share.
  • When you join someone else's household, the household you had on your own and its data are deleted; the app warns you before this happens.
  • If you delete your account, the data you entered in a shared household stays with the members who remain, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
  • Disagreements between members of a household are for them to resolve; we cannot arbitrate them.

4. Free plan and Balance Premium

Balance can be used for free, with no time limit. Balance Premium unlocks additional features (the current list is on our pricing page) and is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription; from time to time we may also offer a one-time "lifetime" purchase. One purchase unlocks Premium for every member of the household for as long as it is active.

Purchase, renewal and cancellation

  • Premium is bought inside the app: through the Apple App Store on Apple devices, through Google Play on Android, and through Paddle in the web app. Whichever you use is the seller: it takes the payment, applies taxes and its own terms of sale, and issues the receipt. We never see your card details.
  • The price, the billing period and any free trial are shown before you confirm the purchase. Prices may vary by country and currency.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the renewal date: from your App Store or Google Play account settings, or from the link in the receipt Paddle sent you or at paddle.net. Deleting the app or your Balance account does not cancel a subscription.
  • When you cancel, Premium stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • If we change the price of a subscription, you will be notified in advance and, where the law or the seller's rules require it, asked for your consent before the new price applies.

Refunds and right of withdrawal

Refund requests are handled by the seller you purchased from, under its policies: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google from your Google Play order history, Paddle at paddle.net. Nothing in these Terms limits any right of withdrawal or refund that the law of your country grants you as a consumer.

5. Your content

The data you enter in Balance — transactions, notes, categories, photos and so on — remains yours. You give us only the permission we need to store it, process it, sync it across your devices and show it to the members of your household, for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you. This permission ends when the content is deleted, as described in the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for the content you upload, and you confirm that you have the right to upload it — for example, that a profile photo is of you or that you have permission to use it.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for anything unlawful, or to store content that infringes the rights of others;
  • try to access accounts or households that are not yours, or data you are not entitled to see;
  • interfere with the Service, probe or test its security without our permission, or overload it, for example with automated requests;
  • copy, modify, reverse engineer or decompile the apps, except to the extent the law expressly allows it;
  • resell the Service or use it to build a competing product.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules. Except where the breach is serious or the law prevents it, we will tell you first and give you the chance to export your data.

7. Our rights

The apps, the website, the Balance name and logo, and everything we create for the Service belong to Wellcode or to its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the apps for as long as you have an account, in line with these Terms and with the rules of the store you downloaded them from.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, for example through our feedback board, we may use them to improve Balance without owing you anything for it.

8. Third-party services

Some parts of the Service rely on others: signing in with Google or Apple, buying through the App Store, Google Play or Paddle, our feedback board on Featurebase. When you use them, their own terms and privacy policies also apply. We are not responsible for services we do not operate.

9. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep Balance available and your data safe, but we cannot promise that the Service will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features. If we remove a feature that is part of Premium, or if we decide to discontinue the Service, we will tell you in advance and give you enough time to export your data.

10. Liability

The Service is provided "as is", with the care that can reasonably be expected from a small software company. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for loss of profit, or for decisions you make on the basis of figures shown in the app.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — including the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

11. Ending the relationship

You can stop using Balance at any time and delete your account from the app's settings. Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription: cancel that with the seller you bought it from (section 4).

We may close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, or if we are required to by law. If we discontinue the Service as a whole, we will give you notice in advance.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will publish the new version on this page with its date. If the changes are significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you do not agree with the new Terms, you can delete your account before they apply.

13. Apple App Store

If you downloaded Balance from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:

  • these Terms are between you and Wellcode, not Apple. Wellcode, not Apple, is responsible for the app and its content;
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which may refund the purchase price; to the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation;
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection claims, or claims that it infringes the intellectual property rights of a third party;
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you;
  • you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim before the courts of the place where you live. Otherwise, the courts of Reggio Emilia, Italy, have exclusive jurisdiction.

If something goes wrong, please write to us first: most problems can be solved quickly that way.
